The new normal..

Do you remember how it was?
As lockdown slowly lifts after a few months of what can be described as some very tight restrictions, I am aware that the anxiety I felt surrounding Covid-19 has somewhat decreased. Almost to a point of non – existence. I find it interesting that even though the risks are still the same as they were all those weeks ago, I find myself no longer afraid. What has changed I wonder?
Is this an example of “creeping normality”? -From Wikipedia: Creeping normality (also called landscape amnesia) is a process by which a major change can be accepted as normal and acceptable if it happens slowly through small, often unnoticeable, increments of change.
I walked into town yesterday and I notice that it is now much busier than it has been. Most of the shops are still closed, yet there are many more people out. However, the biggest change that I feel I observed, was that folks do not seem as frightened as they did when all this began. Back then I could see the fear in their faces as they went about business in a hurried and intense fashion.
I guess it is a little like what happens when you find yourself in a terrible relationship or job and wonder how it got to that point. “small, often unnoticeable, increments of change.”
If you can relate to the above statement. I challenge you to reflect upon its impact on your life right now. I ask that you give some thought to using the same process that got you to that point to make positive improvements in your life. again – “small, often unnoticeable, increments of change.”.
One. Small. Step. at. A. time.
